Job Description
As a Substitute Teacher, you will play an essential role in providing high-quality instruction to adult learners aged 18 and over during the absence of the regular teaching staff. Your work may include delivering lessons remotely through learning centers across California, particularly in counties such as Nevada, Riverside, Monterey, Kern, Los Angeles (Antelope Valley), Merced, Ventura, and Butte. You will be responsible for teaching a diverse student population, using both synchronous and asynchronous methods that emphasize language acquisition and inclusive teaching strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Lesson Preparation & Delivery: Create and teach engaging, multi-subject lessons for diverse learners in a self-contained classroom setting, covering core subjects such as math, science, and language arts.
Online Course Management: Implement and deliver online courses using the Canvas learning management system, ensuring smooth and effective remote learning experiences.
Assessment & Evaluation: Observe, evaluate, and assess student performance, both in-person and online. Assign and grade coursework, projects, tests, and assignments, maintaining accurate and timely student records.
Student Records Management: Use Aeries student information system to keep track of grades and other essential student data, following accepted grading criteria and practices.
Guidance & Career Support: Collaborate with the school counselor to provide students with information about career opportunities, employment resources, and further education pathways.
Classroom Management: Foster a positive learning environment by managing classroom behavior and encouraging students to set and maintain high standards for conduct.
Culturally Relevant Instruction: Develop and deliver inclusive lessons that are culturally sensitive and appropriate for a diverse student body with varying cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds.
Collaboration & Teamwork: Work closely with colleagues to develop and implement activities that enhance the learning experience, ensuring all students have the support they need to succeed.

Skills & Abilities:
Strong classroom management and positive student behavior promotion.
Ability to analyze data to inform and adjust instruction for student growth.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and other relevant software.
Comfort with using technology to facilitate online learning.
Ability to meet a wide range of academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing.
Mandatory Requirements:
Must have tuberculosis (TB) clearance or obtain it before starting the role.
Must pass a clearance check from the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Education & Experience:
Education: A Bachelor's Degree is required.
Certifications: A 30-Day substitute permit, multiple subject or single subject teaching credential is required.
Experience: Experience working with rural or farm working communities is preferred, but not necessary.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Food Handlers Certificate: Must have or be able to complete the training within 30 days of hire.
Mandated Reporter Certificate: Must have or be able to complete the training within 90 days of hire.
Travel Requirements:
You may be required to travel as needed for the role.
Language Skills:
Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to stand, sit, and move around the classroom. Frequent lifting up to 10 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision for tasks like working on a computer. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
